Durham Logistics College was formed by industry professionals from manufacturing, logistics and human resources backgrounds who were at the time extremely frustrated by the lack of provision in key industrial areas.
Originally the organisation was formed as a Distance learning provider of Logistics and Transport courses. It was however, distance learning with a difference; as the core founders where agitated with this wasted opportunity to make distance learning a real benefit to business.
After researching the problems with distance learning they came up with a package of support to make distance learning a real strong benefit to both the learners and the businesses that employed them.
The College found that they quickly became regarded as a leading expert nationally with distance learning provision. The next logical step was to take on a wider and more diverse range of training courses so the IOM (Institute of Operations Management) courses where offered along with CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply), CMI (Chartered Management Institute), IE (Institute of Export) and finally the ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management).
In 2003 the College won a national award for being the “Best Training and Development Provider of the Year”. This was quickly followed with Centre of Excellence status for Logistics and Transport and then overall CDQL excellence award making DLC a full centre of excellence for all provision.
On the back of this success the college was asked to get involved with other areas of provision including Skills for Life and I.T. training. Again, taking a high quality learner/industry approach has reaped major benefits and excellent results across a range of areas.
In May 2005 the College moved it head office facility to a purposely-designed building conversion. Allowing the business to deliver from high quality facilities and giving access to excellent conference resources.
In August 2005 Durham Logistics College was awarded major contracts from both UFI learn direct, The Learning and Skills Council and from the European Social Fund.
Durham Logistics College is recognised as a major provider within the County Durham region, across the North East, UK, Europe and wider world.
